Curtefranca DOC is a wine that is produced in the province of Brescia, in the same territory where the Franciacorta DOCG is produced. After 2008 its name was changed, to avoid the possible confusion between the two wines, thus differentiating them by specific characteristics. Curtefranca is produced in a variety of types, starting from the still white wine to the red. The types are therefore: the white Curtefranca, the curtefranca white Vigna, the red Curtefranca and the red Curtefranca Vigna.
To date there are many wineries producing Curtefranca, as the wine has become a true classic of its area, it can be said that the white wine Lombardo has imposed itself nationally. Curtefranca was born in Lombardy, in Brescia, where the vine has been cultivated for generations, although it is from 1960 that things begin to change.
In 1967 the DOC Franciacorta Rosso was established, which is one of the first denominations of controlled origin born in Italy and which also includes the type of sparkling wine, but it was only in 1995 that a specific discipline, with the birth of the DOC Terre di Franciacorta, will be dedicated to quiet white and red wines.
From a specificity of the Francecorta derives the name Curtefranca, neologism that refers to the free courts, that is, the fact that the main centers of the area of the Moorish arch were originally, of the royal courts, which after the arrival of the Benedictines and the cluniacensi, enjoyed deductibles (curtes francae), that is, exemptions from the payment of transport duties, because they were in charge of the control of the roads and the land.
The DOC white Curtefranca wine is one of several types of wine provided by the name Curtefranca DOC. Each discipline of the DOC denominations provides for specific types of wine, which diversify according to their ampelographic composition, i.e. for the vines granted for their production, for the winemaking procedures and for the unique sensory characteristics of the wine. The vines that fall into the ampelographic composition of the DOC white Curtefranca wine are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.
The sensory characteristics of the DOC white Curtefranca impose a straw yellow color with green reflections. The aromatic fan of the DOC white curtefranca wine is to read it, floral, textured and on the palate is dry, soft, savory, ecstatic.
The DOC red Curtefranca wine is the type of wine provided by the name Curtefranca DOC mirror to the DOC white Curtefranca. The vines that fall into the composition of the DOC red Curtefranca wine are Cabernet franc, Carmenère, Merlot and Cabernet sauvignon.
The sensory characteristics of the DOC red Curtefranca impose a ruby red color, with high intensity. The aromatic fan of the DOC red Curtefranca wine consists of herbaceous notes and the tasting results in a medium, dry, balanced body.
